Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Philanthropist had an eye catching two-year-old winner at Greyville on Sunday when his son Pack Leader made a smart winning debut when downing a large field of well bred juveniles to win first time out over 1200m.
Trained by Glen Kotzen and ridden by in-form jockey Craig Zackey, Pack Leader produced an impressive turn of foot to win by three lengths going away!
He is the latest Philanthropist 2yo to impress, with others including the Listed Ruffian Stakes runner up Outlander.
The same day, Party Crasher, a full-sister to Pack Leader, became yet another black type horse to have emerged from Philanthropist’s first crop when she ran third in Sunday’s Listed The Scarlet Lady.
Philanthropist’s first crop is now responsible for six black type horses, including the graded winners She’s A Giver and Singapore Sling.
A proven sire overseas, and former leading sire in the US, Philanthropist’s other notable runners include the champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, as well as Sovereign Award nominee Hot Kiss.
The son of Kris S has 11 lots on next week’s National Yearling Sale including a filly out of G1 winner Little Miss Magic (Lot 24), a filly out of G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Madrisa (Lot 30), a colt out of four time stakes winner She’s A Pippa (Lot 169), and a filly out of G2 winning 2yo Waywest Goddess (Lot 250).
