Moutonshoek’s Galileo horse The United States, whose first crop made such a bright start last season, came up with an eye catching debut winner at Fairview on Friday.
The stallion’s two-year-old son Khaya’s Hope made the perfect start to his racing career when victorious in Fairview’s first race, the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1200 metres.
The Gavin Smith trained colt was always travelling strongly, and when Ryan Munger asked the question, Khaya’s Hope strode into the lead before pulling well clear and going on to score on debut by three and a quarter lengths.
Bred and owned by Khaya Stables, Khaya’s Hope is out of the Danehill Dancer mare Miss Khaya.
The colt is the second two-year-old winner this season for his sire The United States, with the latter also responsible for the promising Philosophise.
Winner of the G1 Ranvet Stakes, The United States made an explosive start with his first runners headed by G2 4Racing SA Nursery winner Sheela.
One of 93 G1 winners for legendary sire Galileo, The United States is a full-brother to multiple G1 winners Hermosa and Hydrangea.
