Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Vercingetorix enjoyed a sparkling couple of days at the end of the week, with his progeny shining both on the racetrack and in the sales ring.

On Saturday, Vercingetorix gelding Viva Asterix made the perfect start to his career when he made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
The Candice Bass trained three-year-old, a full-brother to the high-class Viva’s Liberte, made a big impression when he won the Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1250m).

Under recently crowned champion jockey Craig Zackey, the blue blooded gelding stormed home to win on debut by an emphatic one and three quarter lengths.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Viva Asterix is owned by Khaya Stables.

The sophomore, who is out of the Jet Master mare Viva Maria, was a R2 800 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.

Vercingetorix went close to having a double on Saturday with his son Vercicat running second in the sixth race and daughter Amayah finishing second in the eighth and final race at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
