Impressive debut winner highlights Silvano six timer

26th Sep 2017

It was a long weekend to remember for Maine Chance Farms’ reigning champion sire Silvano, with that son of Lomitas represented by no fewer than six winners over the past long weekend.

Silvano, Champion Sire in South Africa last season, has made a superb start to the 2017-2018 racing season and in Silver Maple he looks to have another smart 3yo on his hands.

Trained by Geoff Woodruff, Silver Maple made an eye catching winning debut over 1200m, when justifying 7-10 favouritism by a long neck.
The Maine Chance Farms bred colt, a full-brother to dual Guineas winner Janoobi and to G3 Champion Juvenile Cup hero Sedge, was a R1 000 000 buy from last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Silver Maple is one of a number of smart looking 3yos for dual champion SA sire Silvano this season, with others including the unbeaten Billy Silver, the regally bred Love Supreme, and Sabbatical.

Other notable winners for the triple G1 winning Silvano this past weekend included the Lammerskraal bred Kapen Pride (successful by nearly four lengths at Greyville on Friday), and Platinum Class, who impressed when landing the very first race held at the revamped Durbanville racecourse this past Saturday.

Platinum Class was one of two winners for her sire at Durbanville on Saturday, with the Justin Snaith trained Konkola picking up her second win when victorious over 2000m, beating another Silvano filly, Sister Soozie into second place.

Complete list of Silvano winners for the weekend include Flamingo Vlei (who got off the mark over 1900m on Friday) and Ladies First, with the latter victorious for a fifth time at Borrowdale on Sunday.

Silvano is set to be represented by two runners in Saturday’s R750 000 Grand Heritage –Count Tassilo and Morpheus.
