Avontuur Thoroughbred Estate’s resident sire Talk Of The Town gained a notable update to his pedigree when his half-sister Columbia Road got off the mark at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.
A four-year-old daughter of Flower Alley, Columbia Road proved far too strong for her rivals in Wednesday’s Online Form Guide www.gallop.co.za Maiden Plate (1800m).
The Tony Rivalland trained filly simply powered away, under Sean Veale, to shed her maiden by an impressive four and a half lengths.
Bred by the Backworth Stud, Columbia Road had finished third in each of her two previous starts and has clearly relished the step up in trip.
Out of the Street Cry mare Street Wise, Columbia Road is a half-sister to two winners including the classy Talk Of The Town.
The latter, the only son of Avontuur’s late star sire Var at stud in South Africa, showed great promise in a brief racing career with Talk Of The Town winning three of just five starts, while scoring from 1400 to 1600 metres.
Talk Of The Town, whose relatives include champion sires Northern Guest and Redoute’s Choice, will be represented by his first yearlings on sale in 2023.
