Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont’s triple G1 winning sire Jackson was represented by a hugely impressive winner at Greyville on Sunday.
His first crop daughter Can You Feel It romped home to shed her maiden as she liked when posting a 5.75 length win, at the prohibitive odds of 1-6, over 1200m for jockey Warren Kennedy and trainer Gareth Van Zyl.
Bred and owned by Michael Leaf, Can You Feel It ranked among the leaders of her generation at two, when she ran third in both the G1 Thewkini Stakes and G2 Samsung Golden Slipper.
The filly, who had won a barrier trial prior to her win on Sunday, has now won or placed in all four starts and looks an exciting prospect for the season ahead.
Can You Feel It now looks a leading contender for the R2.5 million Ready To Run Stakes to be run next month.
Her sire Jackson has now been responsible for 11 first crop winners, with his other exciting runners including debut scorer Heaven’s Embrace, G3 Cape Nursery third Mr Crumford and the smart filly Water Spirit. The latter bids to make it two wins from three starts when she lines up in a MR 72 handicap over 1800m at Kenilworth this Saturday.
Jackson, whose victories included both the G1 Investec Cape Derby and G1 Daily News 2000 (races previously won by his four times Equus Outstanding sire Dynasty), is from the same family as Smart Strike, a dual US champion sire whose sire sons have dominated major races in North America in 2018. His sons Curlin, English Channel, and Lookin At Lucky have been responsible for the winners of such major races as the Haskell Invitational, Blue Grass Stakes, Santa Anita Handicap, Gold Cup, Pacific Classic, Beldame Stakes, Awesome Again Stakes, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, Northern Dancer Turf Stakes, Maker’s Mark Mile, Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, and Wood Memorial.
Jackson has a single lot on sale at the 2018 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, and four two-year-olds on offer at the 2018 CTS Ready To Run Sale.
