Promising US three-year-old Skywire, who hails from the immediate family of Ridgemont Highlands’ well performed stallion Jackson, made it two wins from two outings with a smart win at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday.

Skywire, a colt by Afleet Alex, opened his account with 3/4-length score in a six-panel event on the Woodbine synthetic Dec. 9 for previous trainer Sid Attard. Gary Barber bought into the colt following that effort and he was transferred to Mark Casse. Trying two turns for the first time in this sloppy off-the-turfer allowance optional claiming race, the 3-1 shot was off a step slow, but quickly got going and moved into a ground-saving fourth, sitting close to opening splits of :23.57 and :47.64. The chestnut took control rounding the bend and splashed clear in the lane for a six-length success.

Clearly a smart sort in the making, Skywire is out of the unraced Gone West mare Meandering Stream –whose granddam is the outstanding broodmare No Class.

The latter (who ranks as the fourth dam of Jackson) produced the champions Sky Classic (also a successful sire), Regal Classic, Grey Classic and Classy N Smart (dam of Breeders’ Cup winner Dance Smartly and dual US champion sire Smart Strike).

Jackson, a son of outstanding stallion Dynasty and victorious in all of the G1 Investec Cape Derby, G1 Daily News 2000 and G1 Champions Cup, made a bright start with his first crop including the G1 filly Can You Feel It, Cape Nursery third Mr Crumford, and the useful performers Heaven’s Embrace, Action Jackson, Water Spirit and Beat It.

The triple G1 winner has six lots on offer at the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale –including a colt (Lot 32) inbred to No Class, a ¾ sister (Lot 108) to G3 Politician Stakes winner Blaze Of Noon and a colt (Lot 124) from the same family as triple G1 winner Esoterique.
