Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed and proven G1 sire Flower Alley will be represented by his first South African runner next week.
The 2005 G1 Travers Stakes winner is set to be represented by his 2yo son Juniper Lane (a member of Flower Alley’s first local crop) in the All To Come Maiden Juvenile Plate, run over 1100m, at Scottsville on Wednesday.

Bred by Highlands, the gelded Juniper Lane is trained by Kumaran Naidoo and will be ridden by Mark Khan in Sunday’s juvenile contest.

Out of the Tapit mare Gin Rummy, Juniper Lane was a R180 000 buy from the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale.

His sire Flower Alley, a son of US champion sire Distorted Humor, was an exceptional racehorse who earned over $2.5 million in prize money.
His five wins included four graded successes –the Travers Stakes, G2 Jim Dandy Stakes, G2 Lane’s End Stakes, and G3 Salvator Mile, with Flower Alley also running second, to Horse Of The Year Saint Liam, in the 2005 G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Retired to stud in Kentucky, Flower Alley currently has 40 black type performers to his name –headed by G1 Kentucky Derby/G1 Preakness Stakes winning champion I’ll Have Another. Other notable performers sired by the regally bred chestnut (he is from the same family as breed shaping champion sire Lyphard) include champions Lukes Alley and My Wandy’s Girl, and the G1 winners Bullards Alley (Pattison Canadian International) and Lilacs And Lace (Ashland Stakes). The latter also ranks as the dam of Japanese G1 winner Lucky Lilac.
