Jet Dark relative named TDN Rising Star

17th Feb 2023

Champion Jet Dark, whose retirement to Drakenstein Stud was recently announced, hails from a truly exceptional family, and Jet Dark’s stellar female line received yet another boost when his promising relative Pensee Du Jour (by Camelot) was named a TDN Rising Star on Thursday.
Three-year-old Pensee Du Jour scored a hugely impressive success in the 9 1/2-furlong Prix duChateau de la Reine Blanche for unraced 3-year-old fillies on Thursday. Away smartly under Alexis Pouchin, the 1-2 favourite who is a half-sister to the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal winner and G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen third Canvassed, was in front before two furlongs had been covered. Stretching clear in early straight, the Andre Fabre-trained bay was already being eased down a furlong from the finish and was four lengths ahead of the Fabrice Chappet newcomer Crown Princesse there, with another three lengths back to Hasapiko.
With no prompting from the saddle during the closing stages, Pensee Du Jour still covered the last three furlongs on the Polytrack in :34.64 seconds and her entries in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, G1 Prix de Diane and G1 Prix Saint-Alarydo not look fanciful on this first piece of evidence.
The exciting Pensee Du Jour is out of the Dansili mare Painter’s Pride, a half-sister to Arc winning champion and successful sire Peintre Celebre.
Her granddam Peinture Bleue ranks as the fourth dam of multiple Equus Champion Jet Dark, among many other equine celebrities.
One of the very best sons of champion sire Trippi, Jet Dark retired to Drakenstein on a high note, with the bay running out a convincing winner of the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met last time out.
In total, Jet Dark retires to stud having won nine of 19 starts, with the champion’s victories including five at G1 level.
The dual G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate/G1 HKJC World Pool Champions Cup winner retires with earnings of more than R5.697 million to his name.
