Varsfontein Stud’s successful stallion Judpot is from one of the hottest families in the stud book.

Judpot, whose relatives include 2018 European classic winners Alpha Centauri (Irish 1000 Guineas) and Study Of Man (French Derby), gained yet another boost to his stellar female line when Yucatan captured the Finlay Volvo International Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

A four-year-old colt by Galileo, Yucatan, who enjoyed the benefit of blinkers in the race, justified 2-1 favouritism in Sunday’s ten furlong contest with a front-running victory over Stellar Mass.
The regally bred colt, who had finished second in the 2016 G1 Racing Post Trophy, was capturing the first group race of his career and holds entries in all of the G1 Coral-Eclipse, G1 Corner Group International Irish St Leger and G3 Meld Stakes.

Yucatan is out of 2003 G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Six Perfections (by Celtic Swing), and his third dam, Pasadoble, is granddam of Judpot.

The latter, a former Equus Outstanding Stallion, has been enjoying another memorable season in 2017-2018, with his notable performers including G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge winner Coral Fever and G2 Post Merchants victor Sniper Shot.

Judpot has two yearlings on offer at this week’s KZN Yearling Sale.
