Varsfontein Stud’s red hot resident stallion Judpot gained yet another update to his already impressive pedigree when the regally bred Study Of Man won the G2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday.
The Deep Impact colt romped to an effortless three and a half length win in the G2 event, stamping himself a likely classic contender.
Bred and owned by the Niarchos family, Study Of Man, a potential 2018 G1 Investec Derby and Prix du Jockey Club candidate, has now won two of just three outings, and was second last time out in the G3 Prix La Force.
Long held in high regard by trainer Pascal Bary and owner-breeders the Niarchos family, the son of Deep Impact was encountering decent ground for the first time and bounded clear of three rivals in the style of a very good horse.
Ladbrokes and Coral quote him at 16-1 (from 40 and 33) for Epsom, while Paddy Power go 10-1 for the Chantilly version.
Study Of Man is out of the Storm Cat mare Second Happiness, a half-sister to French classic winners East Of The Moon and outstanding sire Kingmambo, as well as Judpot himself.
The 2018 Prix Greffulhe winner’s second dam is legendary racemare Miesque, whose 12 victories included back to back scores in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.
This is also the family of fellow Breeders’ Cup Mile winners Karakontie and Six Perfections.
Judpot was represented by his fourth individual G1 winner on Saturday when his Ascot Stud bred son Coral Fever won the R4 000 000 Premier’s Champions Challenge at Turffontein.
