Sandown Stud’s resident stallion Ashaawes enjoyed a notable mid-week double, when his daughters Viva Espana and Crimson Royale won their respective races at the Vaalon Tuesday.
Viva Espana, bred by the Connemara and Digteby Studs, broke her maiden in front running fashion when scoring by 2.75 lengths, over 1200m, for trainer Grant Maroun and Wes Marwing.
The lightly raced filly, who is out of the Jallad mare Spanish Rhapsody, won as she liked, romping home to down 12-1 shot Captain’s Alpha as she liked.
Ashaawes looks to have a really smart two-year-old on his hands in the form of Crimson Royale. The latter, trained by Sean Tarry (who also handles Ashaawes’ talented filly Aurelia Cotta), romped to a decisive win over older rivals when winning at the second time of asking on Tuesday.
Crimson Royale, who was bred by the Beaumont Stud, had been third on debut and justified 8-10 favouritism with a smart 1.05 length in Tuesday’s 1200m contest.
A son of Kingmambo and from the same family as top class US sire Broken Vow, Ashaawes is a proven sire of high class runners, with his notable stars including G3 Champagne Stakes winner Priceless Jewel, exported Matchem Stakes winner Reim, durable Dubai campaigner and G1 Investec Cape Derby third Sanshaawes, and high class sprinter Asstar.
