Judpot son lands Egoli Mile

21st February 2019

Varsfontein Stud’s successful stallion Judpot has been enjoying a red-letter patch, and the blue blooded son of  A P Indy was responsible for a second feature race winner in four days when his son Drop Kick won the Egoli Mile (Non-Black Type) at Turffontein on Wednesday evening.

Trained by Alec Laird, the Varsfontein Stud bred three-year-old stormed home to land the delayed R135 000 feature by 1.75 lengths downing well bred favourite Captain Of Tortuga and the Camelot filly Welsh Harp in stylish fashion under jockey Raymond Danielson.
Drop Kick, who has now won or placed in eight of 11 outings, looks destined for bigger and better things judged on this convincing score.

The gelding, a full-brother to G1 Golden Horseshoe winner Forest Indigo, was a R400 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

His sire Judpot had made previously headlines on Sunday when his son Down To Zero captured the G3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap.

Judpot, a half-brother to triple G1 winner and breed shaping sire, sire of sires, and broodmare sire Kingmambo, also enjoyed big race success earlier in the 2018-2019 season when his Ascot Stud bred son Coral Fever won the G2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile over a field which included subsequent G1 G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup hero Tilbury Fort.

A former Equus Outstanding Stallion, Judpot has a single lot on the March 17th Cape Yearling Sale.
