Drakenstein Stud’s leading sire Trippi, South Africa’s champion sire of 2015-2016, enjoyed notable success at last week’s LQP race meeting, where the son of End Sweep was responsible for a trio of winners at Kenilworth.

The Trippi treble was headed by his very promising 2yo daughter Vandah’s Spirit, who made an eye catching debut when landing a juvenile plate over 1000m at Kenilworth on Saturday –despite being slow away and losing valuable ground at the start.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained filly, a full-sister to Listed Storm Bird Stakes winner Flying Myth, powered clear to register a 1.75 length win at the first time of asking and Vandah’s Spirit looks potentially a very smart sort in the making.
The filly, Trippi’s first 2yo runner in 2018-2019, was a R325 000 buy from the 2018 April Yearling Sale.
Trippi enjoyed a quick-fire double at Kenilworth on Saturday, with his talented son Bwana won the tenth and final race on the card for Brett Crawford and Corne Orffer. The ultra consistent four-year-old, just unplaced once in 11 outings, stormed home to score a convincing 1.5 length win over 1200m as tote favourite.
Bred by the Drakenstein Stud, Bwana has now won or been placed in his last seven starts.

One day earlier, Trippi’s son Charles (a R6 000 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale) picked up his second career win when he downed the previously unbeaten Vardy in a MR 80 over 1600m. Bred by Drakenstein Stud, the lightly raced colt (who holds an entry in the upcoming G1 Cape Derby) has now won or placed in four of his five starts to date, with Charles having contested the G2 Concorde Cup at his previous start.
Trained by Brett Crawford, the regally bred Charles was booted home by Corne Orffer.
The sire of 73 stakes winners, and counting, Trippi has six yearlings on offer at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
