A Union Rags colt, who is from the immediate family of Drakenstein Stud’s in-form sire Duke Of Marmalade, was the top yearling sold at the second day of the 2019 Keeneland January Horses Of All Ages Sale on Tuesday.

Consigned by Indian Creek, Agent, the colt was knocked down to Albert Racing for $390 000.
Indian Creek’s Shack Parrish said of the colt, “That sale price was very good. He was a very nice colt and he was really well-received. It was a little bit of what we expected, but we loved it. About 95% of what we sell comes from the farm, so we know them front start to finish. That was exciting.”
The colt is out of the Bernardini mare Zondaq –a half-sister to the graded stakes winners Discreet Dancer and Travelin Man, with the latter having been sired by Duke Of Marmalade’s current stable mate Trippi.
Other notable members of this family include the classic winning siblings and top stallions A P Indy and Summer Squall, former champion South African sire Al Mufti, US champion Lemon Drop Kid –now a leading sire and broodmare sire, and Duke Of Marmalade’s G1 Investec Derby winning half-brother, and hugely promising young stallion, Ruler Of The World.
Himself a five time G1 winner and Cartier Champion, Duke Of Marmalade (whose nearly 40 stakes winners include five G1 winners) enjoyed more feature race success last week when his daughter Princess Irene won Friday’s Listed Ardmore Jamaica Handicap at Kenilworth.
Another of his daughters, the multiple stakes winner Responsibleforlove, made $300 000 at Monday’s session of the Keeneland sale.
The son of Danehill has 12 lots on offer at this month’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
