Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd’s star stallion Vercingetorix has had a wonderful season in 2023-2024 and Silvano’s champion son enjoyed yet more feature race success this season when his daughter Mrs Geriatrix captured the KwaZulu-Breeders Mile at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Filly bounced back to winning ways with a convincing display under Richard Fourie in Saturday’s R600 000 feature.
The Sean Tarry trained Mrs Geriatrix hit the front 200m from home and stayed on strongly to score by just under a length.
Bred by Clifton Stud, Mrs Geriatrix, victorious in all of the G1 Allan Robertson Championship, G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper, G2 World Sports Betting SA Fillies Nursery and Listed Ruffian Stakes at two, has now won seven of 14 starts for her connections.
Mrs Geriatrix, who will now enjoy a break, is out of the Kahal mare Velvet Glove.
Her multiple G1 winning sire Vercingetorix has had a wonderful season in 2023-2024, with the former Equus Champion having come up with 10 individual stakes winners of 12 black-type races in South Africa this season.
Vercingetorix is currently runner-up on the South African General Sires List and third on South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs premiership for the current season.
