Lady’s Pendant success for Gimmethegreenlight

19th Feb 2021

Varsfontein Stud’s red hot More Than Ready horse Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed another big payday at Fairview on Friday when his daughter Roll In The Hay captured the Listed Lady’s Pendant (1200m) in sparkling fashion.

Third in the G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship (beaten by another daughter of Gimmethegreenlight in the form of Third Runway) and in the 2020 G2 WSB Live Games Southern Cross Stakes two starts back, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained Roll In The Hay was always travelling nicely in Friday’s sprint for fillies and mares.

When Aldo Domeyer asked the question, four-year-old Roll In The Hay quickly put the race to bed and drew off in fine style to post a facile two and a half length win.

Bred by the Nadeson Park Stud, Friday’s win was the fourth of Roll In The Hay’s career.

Roll In The Hay is the 30th stakes winner for her G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning sire, with Gimmethegreenlight enjoying another fine season in 2020-2021. Gimmethegreenlight, responsible for G1 winners in both South Africa and Australia, has been responsible for such high-class three-year-olds as Gee For Go, Paisley Park and Second Base and, at the time of writing, he ranks

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has three lots on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, and 13 lots on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale this year.
