Legislate filly wins on debut

17th Jun 2025

Cheveley Stud’s home bred champion Legislate has had a good season with his two-year-olds, and the champion’s good run continued on Monday.
Legislate’s two-year-old daughter Serengetti Sun was backed to start at 83/100 for Monday’s Bet With Tabgold -The Intelligent Bet Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m) and she duly made a winning debut.

Under S’Manga Khumalo, the Gareth Van Zyl trained filly dug down deep to win on debut by a head.
It was almost a further seven lengths back to third place finisher Lou Lou.

Bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, Serengetti Sun was a R600 000 buy from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.

The filly, who is out of the Trippi mare Sunrise In Africa, is bred on the same Legislate/Trippi cross as G2 winner Hoedspruit.

Her four time G1 winning sire Legislate had made waves earlier this season when his son Good For You won the G1 Gold Medallion.

Other promising juveniles for Legislate this season include G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery third Arashi, and Fair Proposal.
