Cheveley Stud’s homebred champion Legislate’s fine season continued when his son Legal Counsel won the KwaZulu-Natal Breeders Mile at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
Trained, like Legislate, by Justin Snaith, the lightly raced Legal Counsel made it four wins from eight starts when he won Sunday’s R600 000 contest.
Under a well judged ride from Andrew Fortune, the three-year-old made much of the running before going on to post a near one and a half length score.
Bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, Legal Counsel, who took his earnings to R653 638 on Sunday, is owned by by Jonathan Bloch, Etienne Braun, Tony Cotterell, Jessica Koster, and the Stonebridge family.
Legal Counsel, who is out of the Silvano mare Imperial Wish, was a R450 000 buy from the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale.
The 2025 KwaZulu-Natal Breeders Mile winner is a bred on very similar lines to the impressive Legislate sired debut winner In A Timely Manner.
The latter is one of six two-year-old winners, from just nine runners, this season for Legislate. This crop is headed by G1 Gold Medallion winner Good For You. The record breaking Legislate is seventh on the Leading Sires of 2YOs premiership for 2024-2025.
