His Drakenstein bred daughter Distant Winter recently made a winning debut in North America when scoring at Delaware Park.
Now in the care of Graham Motion, the What A Winter daughter powered home, under Jorge Ruiz to claim an allowance race (over one mile and 70 yards) in fine fashion.
The bay rated in the middle of the pack inside early on before splitting rivals and surging away to score by a neck.
In the process, Distant Winter picked up her third win from 12 starts, with the daughter of What A Winter having an additional four runner up finishes to her credit.
Distant Winter showed smart form in South Africa where she won the 2023 G3 Winter Nursery, beating 2024 G1 South African Fillies Sprint winner October Morn into second spot. The What A Winter daughter showed top-class form at two, where Distant Winter finished runner up in the G3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery and Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes.
Distant Winter is out of the Trippi sired G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes winner Fromafar which makes the recent US winner a full-sister to G3 World Sports Betting Tommy Hotspur Stakes runner up Far Away Winter.
Her four time G1 winning sire What A Winter had previously enjoyed success in the USA when his champion son Isivunguvungu won the Da Hoss Stakes in 2024.
