The Varsfontein Stud bred and based Master Of My Fate enjoyed a fine day at Kenilworth on Sunday with his promising two-year-old daughter Miss Marguerite landing the first race on the card and his progressive three-year-old son Gem King victorious in Sunday’s top-liner, the G3 World Sports Betting Variety Club Mile (1600m) -first leg of the famed Winter Series.

Both Miss Marguerite and Gem King are trained by Piet Steyn, who is enjoying a wonderful season in 2021-2022 thus far.
A smart winner of his previous start, the Varsfontein bred gelding Gem King made it back to back wins when he bounded away with Sunday’s G3 Variety Club Mile.
One of four winners on the card for jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe, Gem King hit the front full of running and powered away to claim his first black type win by nearly half a length.
Sixth in the G1 Jonsson Workwear Cape Derby earlier in the season, the talented Gem King has now won three of his last four starts and four of 11 starts overall.
Gem King, who is out of the Damascus Gate mare Gem Queen, was a R250 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Yearling Sale.
His very much inform sire Master Of My Fate is also the sire of exciting two-year-old Miss Marguerite, who got off the mark, at just the second time of asking, when landing Sunday’s Welcome To Cape Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m).
Runner up in the BSA Cape Yearling Sale Cup on her only previous start, Miss Marguerite romped home to score by two lengths in Sunday’s race.
Also bred by Varsfontein, and ridden to victory by Bernard Fayd’Herbe, Miss Marguerite was a R90 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale.
She joins the likes of Lady Mistico, Power Broker, Street Outlaw and Sundance Kid as other eye catching two-year-old winners for Master Of My Fate this season thus far.
