Sandown Stud’s successful sire Pathfork was responsible for two very impressive winners at Turffontein on Monday.
Not only did Pathfork’s promising son Storm Brasco make a smart winning return on Monday, but the sire’s top-class son Main Defender romped home to a facile win on the same day.
Trained by Sean Tarry, four-year-old Storm Brasco was making his first start since March when he lined up in the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Progress Plate (1400m) on Monday.
However, the Pathfork gelding defied the layoff when unleashing a blistering turn of foot, under Calvin Habib, to storm home and win by a neck, leaving some smart sorts in his wake.
Bred by Beaumont Stud, Storm Brasco had made a big impression when he won his maiden, at the third time of asking, by seven and three-quarter lengths.
Storm Brasco, who is out of the Fort Wood mare Pinchbe, is bred on the same Pathfork/Fort Wood cross as stakes winners Red Chesnut Road and Miss Honey.
The gelding was a R160 000 buy from the 2022 November Two Year Old Sale.
Pathfork is also the sire of brilliant four-year-old Main Defender, who showed his considerable class when running out an easy winner of the eighth race on Monday.
Winner of the 2024 G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, the Tony Peter trained gelding turned Monday’s Racing240 For Racing. For You Pinnacle Stakes (1600m) into a one-horse race.
Under Gavin Lerena, Main Defender sauntered home to win as he liked by three lengths.
Bred by Jagessar Limited, Main Defender has won eight of 15 starts for earnings of R2,488,375.
The gelding, out of the Judpot mare Alessia, was bought for R140 000 at the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
Irish champion Pathfork is also responsible for dual G1 winning Equus Champion Royal Victory and this season’s G3 Allied Steelrode Yellowwood Handicap queen Olivia’s Way.
