Maine Chance Farms’ inform stallion Vercingetorix dominated proceedings at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Monday where his progeny won three of the eight races run.
The champion son of Silvano went close to making it four wins on the day with his daughter Vision To Achieve running a close second in the fourth race at Scottsville.
Vercingetorix has some very promising two-year-olds this season, and his son Chieftain joined those ranks when he won the Call Telebet Track & Ball Fixed Odds On 031 314 1155 Maiden Plate on Monday.
Fourth on his only previous start, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren-trained Chieftain showed his class in romping home to beat older rivals when he won Monday’s race by just over a length and three quarters.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Chieftain was ridden to victory by Gavin Lerena.
The colt, who is out of the Trippi mare Miss Katalin, was a R1 700 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.
Vercingetorix-sired three-year-olds Lightning Glow and Get Impressed won the fifth and sixth races respectively on Monday. Both horses are trained by Justin Snaith and both were ridden to victory by Richard Fourie.
Under a well judged ride, Lightning Glow hit the front 300m from home in Monday’s Follow Gold Circle On Facebook MR 86 Handicap (1950m) and kept going gamely to score by a neck. Bred by Vanessa Harrison, the gelding has now won three in a row, with Lightning Glow having won three of six starts.
Yet to finish out of the first four, the lightly raced Lightning Glow is out of the Jet Master mare Jet Aglow.
His paternal half-brother Get Impressed caught the eye when running out a more than one-and-a-half length winner of Monday’s Gallop TV Youtube Channel MR 94 Handicap (1600m) and this gelding looks destined for bigger and better things.
Bred by Millstream Farm, Get Impressed is out of the Al Mufti mare So Impressed. He was an R1 000 000 buy from the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
Vercingetorix had also enjoyed notable success at Hollywoodbets Greyville a day before when his daughters Double Grand Slam, Mia Moo and Minogue ran 1-2-3 in the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes.
Currently runner up on the South African General Sires List, Vercingetorix is also the sire of this season’s Listed TAB Hawwaam Stakes winner Marauding Horde, a leading hopeful for Saturday’s G1 TAB SA Derby.
