More feature race success for brilliant Gimmethegreenlight

10th December 2018

Varsfontein Stud’s resident stallion Gimmethegreenlight has been on fire of late, with his progeny scoring all over the country and including the recent South African feature race winners National Park, Rose In Bloom and Stream Ahead.

Gimme One Night

Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, was at it again over the weekend and was represented by three more winners. The son of More Than Ready’s trio of winners this weekend was topped by his son Gimme One Night landing the G3 Cape Summer Stayers Handicap at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Bred by the Riverton Stud, Gimme One Night made it back to back wins when scoring a half length win in Saturday’s R250 000 contest when downing recent Woolavington Handicap Benjan, with previous feature race winners American Landing, Strathdon and Let It Rain further back in running.

It was a first graded stakes win for the Brett Crawford trained gelding who took his earnings to R497 925 with Saturday afternoon’s win.

Produced by the winning Parade Leader mare Fiesta Queen, Gimme One Night was a R200 000 buy from the 2015 National Yearling Sale.

The gelding, one of five graded winners produced in his sire’s first crop, is a 16th individual stakes winner for his outstanding young sire Gimmethegreenlight, whose earlier graded scorers included the G1 winners Gunner (Premiers Champion Stakes) and Surcharge (Daily News 2000).

Surcharge

Gimmethegreenlight, who shares his sire More Than Ready with leading sire Sebring and the very promising stallion Better Than Ready, also enjoyed success at both Fairview and Greyville this past weekend, with Gimmethegreenlight sons Green Lantern and Loadshedder running first and second over 1400m at Fairview on Friday, with another son, Mr Greenlight, shed his maiden over 1600m at Greyville on Sunday.

The in-form sire will be represented in Saturday’s G1 Cape Guineas by his son Crown Guardian and in Saturday’s G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas by Anneka.

The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner has 13 lots on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
