Silvano filly maintains her unbeaten record

10th December 2018

Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Silvano looks to have a very talented filly to his name in the form of Mrs Simpson.

The latter, bred by Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein, made it two wins from as many outings when she scored an impressive off the pace win in assessment plate over 1600m at the Vaal.
The 3yo Mrs Simpson, who impressed with a fluent win over 1200m on debut, was dispatched a 14-10 favourite for Saturday’s race and duly obliged with a 0.3 of a length win.

Trained by Mike de Kock, and ridden on Saturday by Gavin Lerena, Mrs Simpson was a R450 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

Born To Perform

Bred on the same Silvano/Jet Master cross as graded stakes winners Hawwaam, Silvano’s Jet and Sylvan On Fire, Mrs Simpson was produced by the Jet Master mare Express Queen.

She was one of four South African winners for Silvano over the past weekend, with the latter’s three other winners including an eye catching debut winner in the form of Born To Perform.

The latter, a four-year-old gelded son of champion Dancer’s Daughter, romped home to a 4.7 length debut victory (he had previously had a single barrier trial) over 1600m for trainer Dennis Bosch and jockey Warren Kennedy.

Bred by Highlands, Born To Perform, originally bought for R800 000 at the 2016 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale , was one of two winners for his sire at Greyville on Friday, with Silvano also responsible for Red Shift- who notched up his third victory when romping home by three lengths over 1200m for trainer Andre Nel and jockey Gareth Wright.

Silvano also enjoyed success at Greyville on Sunday afternoon with his daughter Lady Li Lay winning her fourth race when successful over 1600m by 1.1 lengths. Like Red Shift, the 5yo Lady Li Lady is trained by Andre Nel for owner-breeder Sabine Plattner.

The sire of 20 G1 winners, including four Vodacom Durban July winners, the triple G1 winning Silvano has an exceptional eight strong draft on offer at the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale- including a half-brother to G3 Sagaro Stakes winner Torcedor (Lot 105), a colt out of the Captain Al sired G1 SA Oaks winner Pine Princess (Lot 137), and a filly from the same female line as Mr Prospector and Seattle Slew (Lot 159).
