More success for in-form Marchfield

4th Jul 2017

Moutonshoek’s resident sires have been in the news recently, with Mambo In Seattle responsible for Saturday’s G2 Gold Circle Golden Slipper winner Desert Rhythm, and champion Marchfield represented by a slew of recent winners –both locally and abroad.

Marchfield, whose first crop are now two, was represented by his third first crop (in South Africa) winner when daughter Tundra Taita got off the mark at the Vaal on Thursday. Bred by Moutonshoek, the Lucky Houdalakis trained filly showed her appreciation for the 1700m trip by recording a gutsy 0.8 of a length score.

Tundra Taita joins the likes of Spring Poetry and Hopeful as first crop winners for dual Canadian champion Marchfield –who has been represented by nine first crop runners to win or finish in the money.

The blue blooded Marchfield (by champion sire A P Indy out of Broodmare Of The Year Pico Teneriffe) also enjoyed good success at Woodbine this past weekend.

Marchfield had a double at the Canadian track, with his top class son Field Of Courage scoring over 1400m on Sunday, with a Marchfield filly Miss Sea landing an allowance race over 1200m on turf one day earlier.

From one of the best families in the stud book, Marchfield is from the same female line as leading sires Harlan’s Holiday, Home Guard, Boldnesian and Ride The Rails –sire of outstanding US sire Candy Ride.
