Klawervlei Stud’s exciting stallion Pomodoro, South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2017-2018, has made a very pleasing start to the new season, with his first 3yos continuing to fire on all cylinders.

Three of Pomodoro’s last six runners have all found the winners enclosure, suggesting their sire is on track for a very rewarding season!
His lastest winner came in the form of the Hemel ‘N Aarde bred Cedar Man, who showed tremendous courage when breaking his maiden over 2000m at Durbanville on Tuesday. The gelding, who races for his breeders, has now won or been placed in three of six outings for trainer Greg Ennion. Interestingly enough, Cedar Man is inbred to the legendary racemare and producer Glorious Song.
Cedar Man is the ninth winner to have emerged from Pomodoro’s first crop.
Pomodoro also features prominently on the log for the 2018 R2.5 million CTS Ready To Run Stakes. His highly talented, but luckless so far, son Cirillo is second on the log for feature (due to be run on November 24th) with another Pomodoro son, Royal Italian, in sixth position.

The 2012 Vodacom Durban July winner, who never raced himself at two, made a remarkable start with his first two-year-olds last season. Pomodoro’s first two-year-olds included Equus Champion and G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Return Flight and the very smart performers Royal Italian and SA Nursery runner up Cirillo.
A son of seven times champion sire Jet Master and out of Broodmare Of The Year Golden Apple, Pomodoro is from the same female line as breed shaping sire legend Danzig. The July winning millionaire has two lots on offer at November’s Germiston based Ready To Run Sale – a filly out of the stakes placed Var mare Wounded Knee who is bred on similar lines to champion Yorker (Lot 26), and a daughter of 4 time stakes winner Pacific Breeze (Lot 108).
