Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s proven G1 sire Oratorio had a smart looking winner at Scottsville on Wednesday when his 3yo daughter Star Vega triumphed in her very first race.

Bred by Dr Ian Heyns, the well bred Star Vega, second behind G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Inverroche in barrier trial back in December, put.1.6 lengths between herself and runner up Class Of Eight to score impressively over 1400 metres.

Trained by Tony Rivalland, Star Vega was ridden to victory on Wednesday by Stuart Randolph.

Out of the Doowaley mare Majestic Star, the three-year-old was a R250 000 buy from the 2017 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.

Star Vega hails from Oratorio’s second South Africa crop, which has also produced the first and second place finishers in the 2018 G1 Tsogo Gold Medallion (Van Halen and Cue The Music respectively), East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Carlita and G3 performers Cloud Break and Petra.

A triple G1 winner, and dual Champion Sire in Italy, Oratorio has two fillies on offer at March’s Cape Yearling Sale.
