Moutonshoek’s Canadian champion Marchfield enjoyed a quick-fire double at the Vaal on Thursday, when his runners won the last two races on the card.

The first of the Marchfield runners to score was Jammin Cat, who pulled clear in the closing stages of a workriders maiden plate over 2000m to register a 1.7 lengths win (it was another 13 lengths back to the third place finisher!).
Bred by Moutonshoek, the 3yo Jammin Cat, who was trying the 2000m trip for a first time on Thursday, is trained by Lucky Houdalakis.

Marchfield is also the sire of Factor Fifty, who demolished her outclassed rivals to score a stunning 13 length victory in Thursday’s ninth and final race at the Vaal.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein, the 3yo Factor Fifty was making just her second career appearance (she was fourth on debut) and she looks capable of going on to better things.

Remarkably, Jammin Cat and Factor Fifty were Marchfield’s only runners on the card!

A son of legendary sire and Horse Of The Year A P Indy (whose sire sons also include Malibu Moon, Pulpit, Flatter, and Bernardini), Marchfield was a dual champion, millionaire and classic winner in Canada, where he won a trio of graded races and the classic Breeders’ Stakes.

He is also responsible for G2 Nearctic Stakes winner Field Of Courage as well as former Winter Derby runner up Spring Man, as well as recent Cape Derby runner Gun Hill.

Marchfield, who is from the same immediate family as the likes of Boldnesian and Harlan’s Holiday, has eight lots on offer at March’s Cape Yearling Sale.
