Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s highly successful resident sire, and triple G1 winner, Oratorio had a smart looking debut winner at Turffontein on Thursday.
His 3yo daughter Shezashiningstar stormed home from off the pace to make a winning debut over 1000m for trainer Johan Janse Van Vuuren and jockey Calvin Habib.
Out of the Jet Master mare Arabian Jet, Shezashiningstar ran on strongly to post a neck win –going away.
The sophomore is a member of Oratorio’s second South African crop, which is headed by G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion winner Van Halen and G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes hero Cue The Music. Another member of this crop, last season’s Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Carlita recently made a pleasing return to racing when romping home to a 2.75 length win over 1200m at Fairview. The Piemonte Stud bred 3yo has now won four of just six starts and was also runner up last season in the Listed
To date, Oratorio’s current 3yos include 18 winners of which five are black type winners or placegetters.
Twice Champion Sire in Italy, Oratorio (who is the sire of 93 stakes horses the world over) is certainly no stranger to siring high class fillies, with his other notable daughters including the G1 winners Banchee and Temida, dual Italian classic winner Cherry Collect, and Irish Champion Viztoria.
