Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Philanthropist has some smart juveniles to his name this season, and his son Texas Sky became his sire’s latest 2yo winner when scoring over 1400m, in open company, at Scottsville on Wednesday.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Texas Sky confirmed his good second, to the very smart Ancestry, with a gutsy half length win in Wednesday’s race.
Out of the Greys Inn mare To Go West, Texas Sky is trained by Dennis Drier –also conditioner of Philanthropist’s very smart daughters Sail and Tsessebe.
Texas Sky is the fifth juvenile winner for Philanthropist this season, with others including the stakes placed fillies Outlander and Tsessebe, both of whom contest Gr3 The Sunlife Vitamins Debutante Stakes on Sunday.
Another 2yo by Philanthropist, Pack Leader, is a runner in the Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes on the same day.
Currently South Africa’s second leading second crop sire, Philanthropist will be represented by 12 lots at next month’s National Two Year Old Sale.
