Potala Palace colt wows in Variety Club Mile romp

10th June 2020

The Ridgemont Highlands’ based G1 winner Potala Palace looks to have an exciting prospect on his hands in the form of the exciting three-year-old Katak.

The latter made it three wins from as many starts, when romping home to a facile five and a half length win in the G3 Kuda Variety Club Mile (1600m) at Kenilworth on Tuesday.

Trained by Piet Steyn, the Aldo Domeyer ridden Katak powered clear of his rivals to win geared down in Tuesday’s G3 contest to win as he liked.

Bred by Highlands, the colt had won each of his two previous starts in good style and Katak looks another fine prospect for his G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes winning sire.

Out of the Windrush mare Sapphire Silk, Katak looks destined for bigger and better things.

Potala Palace, whose close relative Scape recently romped home to a facile ten length win at Belterra Park, has made a big impression with his first two small crops of racing age.

The son of Singspiel’s first crop produced the likes of G1 sprinter Palace Chapel, feature race winner Dalai’s Promise, G3 BMW Politician Stakes runner up Senatla and G3 Man O’War Sprint second Russian Prince, while Potala Palace’s second crop contains not only Katak but also G3 Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Palace Of Dreams and G3 Strelitzia Stakes victress Singforafa.
