Promising filly Magnolia Springs, who shares her third dam Edinburgh with Highlands Stud’s well performed young sire Potala Palace, caught the eye when landing the Listed netbet.co.uk Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood on Thursday.
The Eve Johnson Houghton trained 3yo romped to a decisive 2.75 length win under the urgings of Charles Bishop to register the first stakes victory of her career.
A daughter of Shamardal, Magnolia Springs, out of winning Rainbow Quest mare Rainbow City, has now won two of her four outings and looks a smart prospect in the making.
Named in honour of past winner and subsequent great broodmare Height Of Fashion, the 1991m feature had previously been won by such Epsom Oaks winners as Love Divine and Snow Fairy as well as top broodmares Height Of Fashion, Moon Cactus and Bella Colora.
Edinburgh, ancestress of both Potala Palace and Magnolia Springs, is also ancestress of such G1 winners as Gamut (Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud), Tannery (E P Taylor Stakes), Golan (2000 Guineas, King George and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes), North Light (Epsom Derby) and Epsom Oaks second Tarfasha.
A top-class galloper himself, the Singspiel sired Potala Palace won the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes at two and trained on to land the G3 Joburg Spring Challenge, beating G1 winners Love Struck, Link Man and Wagner.
He made an instant impression when his very first runner, Watsonia, won first time out. Watsonia holds an entry in the upcoming Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes.
