Premier Trophy win for Legislate son

8th January 2022

Cheveley Stud’s resident sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Legislate has enjoyed a fine season in 2021-2022, despite relatively few runners to his name, and the champion son of Dynasty was at it again at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Legislate’s four-year-old son Hoedspruit claimed his biggest win to date when he won Saturday’s G2 Glorious Goodwood Premier Trophy (1800m) on LQP day, while taking his earnings to over R640 000.
Under Richard Fourie, the Justin Snaith trained gelding provided his connections with their first graded win on Saturday when running on from off the pace to land the Premier Trophy of 2022 by half a length.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Hoedspruit has now won five of 14 starts, with his previous wins including last season’s G3 WSB Legal Eagle Stakes and this season’s Listed Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Algoa Cup.

Out of the Trippi mare Londalozi, Hoedspruit was a R280 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale.

His July winning sire Legislate is also responsible for impressive recent G3 Flamboyant Stakes winner Zimbaba this season.

One of the very best sons of outstanding sire Dynasty, Legislate has a single lot on offer at the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
