Rafeef to Highlands

6th Jun 2017

Highlands Farms Stud, part of Ridgemont, will stand the blue blooded Rafeef in 2017.
Trained by Mike de Kock, and owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Rafeef is a G1 winning son of one of the world’s greatest sires and is one of two G1 winning sons produced by former South African Horse Of The Year National Colour.

Redoute’s Choice

He won six of ten outings, and was placed in three others, banking more than R1.1 million in the process, with Rafeef’s six career wins including the 2017 G1 Computaform Sprint, where he accounted for Equus Champion Talktothestars and five time G1 winner Carry On Alice

He also won the G2 Hawaii Stakes, where Rafeef downed seven graded winners, including Equus Champions French Navy and Talktothestars.

Rafeef is one of more than 30 G1 winners sired by four time G1 winner and triple Australian Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice, whose successful sire sons include Snitzel, Stratum, Not A Single Doubt and the short lived Beneteau. Redoute’s Choice has had an exceptional strike in South Africa with his top performers including champions Majmu and Musir and the now Cheveley Stud based multiple G1 winner Wylie Hall.

Rafeef, a full brother to this season’s undefeated G1 SA Nursery winner Mustaaqeem, was produced by Horse Of The Year and Equus Champion 3YO Female Sprinter National Colour, a winner of eight races up to 1200m. National Colour, who also showed her class by winning in Dubai and running second in Britain’s storied G1 Nunthorpe Stakes, won a trio of G1 races in South Africa, headed by the G1 Mercury Sprint, G1 SA Fillies Sprint and preceded Rafeef by landing the G1 Computaform Sprint by more than four lengths in 2006.

National Colour is one of 16 G1 winners sired by former Highlands stalwart National Assembly, also responsible for champions National Emblem, Soft Falling Rain, Historic Lady and Forward Filly.

Rafeef looks a great addition to the Cape Stallion ranks!
