Boland Stud, whose yearlings fetched up to R2 million at the recent National Yearling Sale, will be offering a high class draft of 12 yearlings, and another five as agent, at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale, set to take place at the Sibaya Casino on June29th and 30th.
Among Boland’s draft is lot 196, a bay colt by the beautifully bred Master Of My Fate, a dual G2 winning son of champions Jet Master and Promisefrommyheart.
Master Of My Fate’s third dam is none other than the great mare Soho Secret. Herself a ten time stakes winner who was third in the G1 Paddock Stakes, Soho Secret was Broodmare Of The Year in 1995, with her offspring including the globetrotting G1 winner and local Horse Of The Year London News. Soho Secret is ancestress of numerous high class performers, including this season’s G1 2yo Caravallo, recent G2 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Hack Green and G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner Captain Splendid.
She is also ancestress of no fewer than five G1 winners, as well as the Derby winners American Badger and Superwood.
Lot 196 is out of the winning Fort Wood mare Cochineal whose granddam is none other than the great mare Tawny Red – dam or second dam of four G1 winners. These include G1 Mercury Sprint winner Red Ray, set to stand his first season at stud in 2017, and G1 Summer Cup winner Rudra.
In turn, Tawny Red is a half-sister to Horse Of The Year, July winner and G1 sire/broodmare sire Royal Chalice. This remarkable family also produced G1 SA Derby/SA Guineas winner Beacon Light, champion and G1 winning sprinter Honour The Guest and G1 Cape Guineas winning sire Bushmanland.
Fort Wood, broodmare sire of lot 196, is one of the best sires and broodmare sires ever to stand at stud in South Africa. A multiple champion broodmare sire, his daughters have produced 14 G1 winners, including champions Capetown Noir, Cherry On The Top and Marinaresco.
Fort Wood has also done extremely well when mated to mares from the Soho Secret family, with this mating producing the likes of G1 filly Secret Heart (dam of Breeders’ Cup winner and sire Pluck), stakes winner Justthewayyouare (dam of multiple G3 winner Captain Splendid) and Derby winner Superwood.
