Varsfontein Stud’s resident sire, and South Africa’s reigning champion sire, Gimmethegreenlight had a big day at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday. Not only is the son of More Than Ready the sire of Saturday’s brilliant Cape Racing Sales The Ready To Run Stakes winner Tail Of The Comet, Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of Countdown and Kwinta’s Light who ran second and third respectively in Saturday’s Listed Southeaster Sprint. Another son of Gimmethegreenlight, Wecangoallnight, also caught the eye on Saturday when he beat G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Trip Of Fortune into third place when victorious in the RaceCape Powered by Hollywoodbets Cape A Stakes.

The Sean Tarry-trained Tail Of The Comet made it win number three from just four starts when he romped home to a facile victory in Saturday’s R600 000 Cape Racing Sales The Ready To Run Stakes (1400m).
Under Richard Fourie, Tail Of The Comet made light of a wide trip when storming home to outclass some hapless rivals and win as he liked by four and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Nadeson Park Stud, three-year-old Tail Of The Comet is now likely to be aimed at the G1 Cape Guineas.
The colt, who suffered his only defeat when a close-up and unlucky third in last season’s G2 Tabgold Umkhomazi Stakes, is out of the Jet Master mare Comet Chaser and is thus bred on the same cross as such graded stakes winners as Green Plains, La Bella Mia and Universal.
Tail Of The Comet is, however, one of several outstanding performers to have emerged from his sire’s current crop of three-year-olds, with this number also including G1 winning Equus Champion Sandringham Summit and G1 Gold Medallion winner Lucky Lad.
South Africa’s Champion Sire in both 2020-2021 and 2022-2023, Gimmethegreenlight had two-year-olds make up to R800 000 at Sunday’s Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale.
