Saturday double for Elusive Fort

16th April 2023

Black Swan’s consistently successful sire Elusive Fort had another good day at Turffontein on Saturday, with the stallion’s daughter Special Charm victorious in the sixth race on the card and his son Aussenkehr winning the tenth and final race at Turffontein.
The Paul Matchett-trained Special Charm picked up the fourth win of her career when she stormed home to land the Stephen Stanway FM 78 Divided Handicap (F&M) over 1800 metres. Under Philasande Mxoli, the four-year-old ran on strongly down the inside of the track before going on to run out a one-length winner of Saturday’s race.
Bred by James Armitage, Special Charm has won three of her last five starts, and had finished third and fourth in her two starts prior to Saturday’s win.

Special Charm is out of the Western Winter mare Inuit Woman and is thus bred on the same Elusive Fort/Western Winter cross as G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Lauderdale.
Former Equus Champion Elusive Fort came up with a second success on the day when his Tony Peter-trained son Aussenkehr ran out a game winner of the day’s final race.
Under Denis Schwarz, the gelded three-year-old made it three wins in a row when he made much of the running to land Saturday’s WSB Spin With The Best MR 87 Handicap (1160m) by a short head. It was a game performance by Aussenkehr who had 60kgs on his back.
Bred by Peter de Beyer, Aussenkehr is out of the National Assembly mare Soprano Singer.

A triple G1 winning son of champion sire Fort Wood, Elusive Fort is also the sire of this season’s G1 WSB Cape Town Met runner up Kommetdieding, who is set to commence his stud career at Klawervlei Stud this year.
Elusive Fort has three lots on offer at this week’s National Yearling Sale.
