Saturday double for Greys Inn

14th Nov 2017

Rosedene Stud sire Greys Inn enjoyed an impressive double at the Vaal on Saturday.
The former G1 Vodacom Durban July winning champion was represented by two winners who won their respective heats by an aggregate of seven lengths.

Avontuur bred star Legal Eagle

First to strike was the 3yo Kremlin Judgement, trained, like Greys Inn, by Mike de Kock.
Making just his second outing, having finished third on debut, Kremlin Judgement justified his 12-10 starting price with a facile two and a half length win over a mile on the Vaal’s classic track and he looks a potentially smart sort in the making.

Bred by Rosedene Stud, Kremlin Judgement (who is closely inbred to the great sire Nureyev), was a R100 000 buy from the 2016 March Yearling Sale.

Greys Inn was also responsible for Ossetra, who was rewarded for consistency by an effortless four and a half length win for Alec Laird on Saturday. Bred by the Zandvliet Stud, the lightly raced four-year-old has now won or placed in all six of her starts –Ossetra having previously notched up three consecutive second place finishers.

Greys Inn

South Africa’s Equus Champion Classic Male of 2003, Greys Inn is best known as the sire of dual Horse Of The Year, and six time Equus Award winner, Legal Eagle. The latter, whose earnings are approaching the R10 000 000 mark, made an encouraging return to racing when a close up third in a pinnacle stakes over 1160m recently.

Bred by Avontuur, Legal Eagle holds an entry for the G2 WSB Green Point Stakes in December (he won the Green Point last year when downing subsequent Vodacom Durban July winner Marinaresco).

Greys Inn has a single lot on offer at Friday’s CTS Ready To Run Sale –a filly whose dam is a three time winning half-sister to G3 Prix du Cap winner Bridal Lace (Lot 131).
