Fresh from topping the sires table at the Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale, Varsfontein Stud’s bang in form stallion Gimmethegreenlight’s great run of form continued when he supplied four winners on Saturday, with his progeny shining at both Turffontein and Borrowdale.

With his sons Jubilee and Fire To The Rain landing races one and two respectively at Borrowdale on Saturday afternoon, Gimmethegreenlight’s good form continued at Turffontein on the same day where his sons Sea Virescent and Second Base both stamped themselves as bright future prospects.

A full-brother to the very smart Gimme A Wave, three-year-old Sea Virescent got off the mark at just the second time of asking when scoring a very impressive win on Saturday.
The Alec Laird trained colt bolted up, under a confident ride from S’Manga Khumalo, to score by a length and a half over 1160m.

Sea Virescent, who had finished second on debut, was bred by the Millstream Farm.

Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of exciting Second Base, with the latter making it three wins from just four starts with a fluent display at Turffontein. The 3yo gelding romped home to a two and a half length score, while scoring over 1600m for trainer Johan Janse Van Vuuren and jockey Gavin Lerena.
A smart winner on debut, the Gold Star Stud bred Second Base followed that up with a fourth place finish, before bouncing back to score by three and a quarter lengths on the Turffontein inside track.

The sire of nearly 60 stakes horses, including G1 winners Got The Greenlight, Gunner and Yulong Prince, Gimmethegreenlight has made an excellent start to the 2020-2021 season and looks on course for another fine year.
