Varsfontein Stud’s successful sire Judpot has been enjoying a good season thus far in 2018-2019, and the regally bred son of A P Indy was at it again this weekend.
Judpot was responsible for four winners on Saturday, with his son Sea King scoring in Mauritius, and daughters Currency, Nous Voila and Expedite all scoring in South Africa.
The Candice Bass-Robinson trained 3yo Nous Voila impressed with an all the way in a progress plate (for fillies and mares) over 1200m at Kenilworth this past Saturday.
Bred and owned by Jagessar Ltd, the regally bred Nous Voila kept galloping resolutely to post a decisive two and a quarter length win –at the expense of Cape champion Temple Grafin.
A smart winner on debut last season, Nous Voila rated among the better 2yo fillies in Cape Town last season, when her efforts included a close second in the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint and a third place finish in the Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery.
With a Judpot filly landing Kenilworth’s fifth race on Saturday, another daughter of the in-form stallion continued his good run of form when landing the sixth race of the day. Expedite, a three-parts sister to the Judpot sired G1 Golden Horseshoe hero Forest Indigo and to the Judpot sired G1 performer Bi Pot, showed her class when sweeping clear to record a two and three quarter length win in a FM 92 divided handicap over 2000m, while trying the trip for a first time, on Saturday.
Bred by Varsfontein, the lightly raced four-year-old, a winner of three of her last four outings, has now won or placed in seven of her 11 starts for trainer Glen Kotzen.
Another Judpot filly to score on Saturday was the Ambiance Stud bred Currency. The latter scored a 50-1 surprise when shedding her maiden over 1200m, for trainer Chris Erasmus, by half a length at Turffontein on Saturday.
A former Equus Outstanding Stallion himself, Judpot was in the news earlier this season when his son Coral Fever won the G2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile at Turffontein.
Judpot, whose siblings include the French classic winners East Of The Moon and Kingmambo, has two lots on offer at Friday’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
