Varsfontein Stud’s boom sire Gimmethegreenlight has really been on a roll this month, and the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner was represented by his fourth feature race winner in November when his daughter Simona won the Champion Fillies Stakes at Borrowdale on Sunday.

Trained by Bridget Stidolph, the five-year-old mare, who was dispatched a 9-10 favourite for the Champion Fillies Stakes, stormed home to win Sunday’s 1800m feature race by four lengths.
The mare was named Zimbabwe’s Horse Of The Year for 2017-2018 and was winning the Champion Fillies Stakes for a second year in a row, with Simona’s additional victories having included the 2018 OK Grand Challenge.
In the process, Simona, who is from her sire’s remarkable first crop, picked up the ninth win of her career, with the talented racemare having captured three of her last five outings.
Out of the mare Ginger Hill, Simona is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Western Winter cross as talented 3yo Stream Ahead, Gatecrasher Stakes second Green Haze and G3 performer Light On Her Toes.

Gimmethegreenlight has enjoyed a tremendous success rate this season thus far, with his recent feature race winners headed by such as National Park (G3 Graham Beck Stakes), Stream Ahead (Listed Beharilal Mohabir KZN Guineas Trial) and Rose In Bloom (Listed Gardenia Stakes).
His sire More Than Ready has also been firing on all cylinders this year, with More Than Ready’s G1 winners in 2018 including Roy H, Rushing Fall, Funtastic and Catholic Boy. More Than Ready is also sire of top Australian stallion Sebring, as well as Better Than Ready-currently the Leading First Crop Sire in Australia.
(Another son of More Than Ready, former G1 Queensland Derby winner Eagle Way, broke the track record when he won Sunday’s G2 BOCHK Jockey Club Cup at Sha Tin).
The regally bred Gimmethegreenlight, whose close relative Pierrless won in Australia on Saturday, has three lots on offer at this week’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
