Sceptre Stakes triumph for Gimmethegreenlight

8th January 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s boom sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed another good result at Kenilworth on Saturday when his daughter Gimme Dat was named the winner of the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes.

Ironically, Mercury Rising (later declared a non-runner), who crossed the line first in the Sceptre Stakes, is another daughter of Gimmethegreenlight!

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, three-year-old Gimme Dat is trained by Justin Snaith -who trained Gimmethegreenlight as well.

A R450 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Gimme Dat has now won three of six starts including last season’s G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery.
Out of the Western Winter mare Mizzen Mist, Gimme Dat is a full-sister to Listed Drum Star Handicap hero Green Haze.

In claiming the spoils in Friday’s sprint, Gimme Dat provided Sceptre Stakes consolation for her champion sire, with Gimmethegreenlight sire of 2021 Sceptre Stakes runner up Favorita.

Gimme Dat was one of two winners at Kenilworth on Friday for Gimmethegreenlight -whose two-year-old daughter Pacific Green made an impressive debut when victorious in the first race.

Gimmethegreenlight has made a superb start to 2022 -not only did he provide the Sceptre Stakes winner, his sons Second Base and Johnny Hero ran 1-2 in the G3 London News Stakes last weekend -when two other sons, Outofthedarkness and Prince Of Fire, ran second and third respectively in the same day’s G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes.
