For the third time in six years, Mauritzfontein’s Kingmambo horse Ideal World supplied the G1 Met winner.
Not only did Ideal World’s daughter Smart Call win the Met in 2016, but his son Rainbow Bridge won the 2019 Sun Met and then followed up that Met win by landing Saturday’s G1 Cape Town Met (2000m) in impressive fashion.

The six-year-old Eric Sands trained gelding came from the back of the field, under a sustained finish under Luke Ferraris to win Saturday’s R1 000 000 Met by a length and three-quarters, over July winner, and tote favourite, Belgarion.

Now a nine time winner, from 21 starts, Rainbow Bridge took his earnings to  R7 593 125.with his Met victory on Saturday.

Runner up in the 2020 Met, as well as the recent G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Rainbow Bridge has now won four G1 races, with his tally also including scores in the 2020 G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge and the 2019 G1 World Sports Betting Champions Cup.

A R300 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale, Rainbow Bridge is one of more than 40 black type horses for his sire, who is also responsible for G1 SA Derby winner Samurai Warrior and champion Hermoso Mundo.

Ideal World has eight lots on the Cape Yearling Sale, and two yearlings on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
