Klawervlei Stud’s home bred Cape Guineas winner William Longsword has made a tremendous start to his stud career, and the son of Captain Al made more headlines at Turffontein on Saturday when his daughter Bon Vivant captured the Listed Secretariat Stakes.

Under a well judged ride from Mark Khan, Bon Vivant was quickly sent to the front, and never looked really in danger of defeat.

The William Longsword filly kept pulling out more in the closing stages, with Bon Vivant going on to post a near one and a half length win.

Bred by part-owner Laurence Wernars, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained Bon Vivant claimed her first black type win in a time of 87.4 seconds.

Her sire William Longsword has been in tremendous form of late, with the son of Captain Al supplying a flurry of eye catching winners including impressive debut winner Polar World and the likes of Coin Spinner and Hasta Manana.

One of more than 100 stakes winners sired by Klawervlei’s late, great Captain Al, William Longsword’s eye catching first crop also includes G2 Epol Umkhomazi Stakes winner Dyce and the likes of Hasta Manana, Remember When, and Safe Return.

William Longsword has 25 lots on offer at the 2022 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, including a filly (Lot 47) out of G1 winner For The Lads and a three-parts brother (Lot 158) to dual G1 winner Linebacker.
