Maine Chance Farms’ sensational sire, and former Equus Champion, Vercingetorix came up with his sixth stakes winner of the 2021-2022 season when his son Bereave won the Listed Southeaster Sprint (1100m) at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The consistent gelding confirmed the merit of his last run when he ran out a convincing winner of Saturday’s sprint, with the Adam Marcus trained Bereave having had finished second in the G2 Cape Merchants last time out and proved a drop back in trip was no problem with a smooth victory.
Quickly out, under Craig Zackey, Bereave tracked the front running Pleasedtomeetyou for much of the running, before hitting the front 150m from home.
From there, Zackey kept his mount going well, and Bereave held on well to claim his biggest win to date by a length and a quarter.
Now a four time winner from nine starts (he is yet to finish out of the first three), the Collins Stud Farm bred Bereave claimed Saturday’s sprint in a time of 63.86 seconds.
Out of the Cataloochee mare Jeanre, Bereave is the 16th stakes winner for Vercingetorix -whose son Gallic Chief scored an eye catching win at Turffontein on Saturday.
