Silvano colt maintains his unbeaten record

7th January 2019

Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Silvano enjoyed yet more feature race success when his unbeaten 3yo son Hawwaam captured the G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes over 1400m at Turffontein on Sunday.

An impressive winner of the G2 Dingaans at his last start, the Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein bred colt dug down deep to register a 0.2 of a length win at the expense of Inexhaustible and third place finisher Vontreo, with multiple graded stakes winner Celtic Sea back in fourth place.

The colt gave trainer Mike de Kock and jockey Gavin Lerena one of two graded wins, with the pair also teaming up to win the G3 Three Troikas Stakes on the same card.

Hawwaam, a R1 000 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale, is out of the Jet Master mare Halfway To Heaven and is bred on the same Silvano/Jet Master cross as the graded stakes winners Silvano’s Jet (G2 Betting World Derby) and Sylvan On Fire (Ge Yellowwood Handicap), as well as recent G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Silvano’s Pride.

It was a second feature race winner for Silvano in four days, with the latter’s daughter Platinum Class having captured the Listed Lady’s Bracelet the previous Wednesday.

The sire of 85 stakes winners, including South Africa’s current Leading First Crop Sire Vercingetorix, Silvano has eight lots on offer at the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale including a colt out of G1 SA Oaks winner Pine Princess, and a half-brother to SA Nursery winner William The Silent.
