Maine Chance Farms’ dual South African champion sire Silvano made quite an impression on the first edition of this year’s LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, released on Thursday.
Not only is Silvano the sire of Marinaresco, joint second top rated South African bred and raced runner, but the triple G1 winner is also broodmare sire of Last Winter-officially South Africa’s top rated runner this season thus far.
A winner of four his six outings, the internationally bound Last Winter is out of the Silvano sired G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Field Flower.
A son of Western Winter, Last Winter, runner up in both the G1 Sun Met and G2 Premier Trophy this season, received a rating of 119, while Marinaresco was given a rating of 118.
Equus Champion 3YO Colt of 2015-2016 , and winner of the 2017 G1 Vodacom Durban July, Marinaresco was also rated 118 by LONGINES 12 months ago. The Mauritzfontein bred champion, who has banked over R5.6 million in earnings, will now pursue his career overseas.
Silvano has, once again, enjoyed a tremendous season in South Africa this season, with the champion son of Lomitas making his mark as a sire, sire of sires and broodmare sire.
The sire of graded winners Simply Royal, Bella Sonata, Star Express and Strathdon this season, Silvano is also sire of July winning champion Bold Silvano. The latter left his mark recently through his unbeaten Listed Storm Bird Stakes winning son Bold Eagle.
Silvano currently heads the South African General Sires List (according to NHA), while Bold Silvano is currently South Africa’s third Leading Sire of 2YOs by prize money earned (NHA statistics).
The sire of 20 individual G1 winners, Silvano has three yearlings on the 2018 April Yearling Sale and 28 yearlings on next month’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
