South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight had an excellent day on Saturday.
Gimmethegreenlight sired runners won three races at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, with the Varsfontein resident’s daughter Green Sapphire claiming the G2HKJC World Pool Stakes (1400m), and his son Malmesbury Missile taking out the Listed Hollywoodbets Sharks Gatecrasher Stakes (1400m).
Gimmethegreenlight went close to having a four timer on Saturday, with his daughter Matcha Mint just beaten into second in the first race, and his son On My Honour finishing a close up third in Saturday’s G3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial (1800m).
Classy three-year-old Green Sapphire picked up her second graded win on Saturday when she won the HKJC World Pool Stakes.
Trained by Sean Tarry for her owner-breeder Drakenstein Stud, Green Sapphire overcome a rough trip and wide passage to land Saturday’s R500 000 contest.
Under S’Manga Khumalo, Green Sapphire stormed home down the outside of the track to get up and win the G2 feature by nearly half a length.
Now a winner of five of her ten starts (she was also victorious in this season’s G3 Umzimkhuu Stakes), Green Sapphire is out of the Trippi mare Sapphire Gem and is thus bred on the same cross as G1 winners Gimme A Prince and She’s A Keeper.
Gimmethegreenlight came up with his 77th stakes winner when his Malmesbury Missile won Saturday’s Gatecrasher Stakes. Malmesbury Missile is the fourth son of Gimmethegreenlight to win the Gatecrasher.
Trained, like his sire, by Justin Snaith, two-year-old Malmesbury Missile stormed home, under Richard Fourie, from the back of the field to power away and win by a length.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, the two-year-old races for Itssa It & Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd & World Sports Betting (Nom: Mr W Tannous).
Malmesbury Missile, third in the G3 Tote Godolphin Barb Stakes prior to his latest win, has won two of six starts.
The colt, who is out of Equus Champion Gabor, was a R900 000 purchase from the 2024 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of Gimmethegoodlife, who ran out an impressive winner of Saturday’s fourth race.
Multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight’s fine run had commenced in Fairview on Friday, where his daughter Greenlitealltheway won the Wedgewood Handicap.
