Sixth first crop winner for Lancaster Bomber

29th April 2023

The premature death of Drakenstein Stud’s well performed stallion Lancaster Bomber continues to appear a real setback to the South African racing industry, and the ill-fated son of War Front struck yet again when coming up with an impressive debut winner at Turffontein on Saturday.

Lancaster Bomber’s two-year-old son Red Bomber became the sixth winner to emerge from his sire’s first crop when storming home to win impressively on Saturday.
Under Gavin Lerena, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained colt hit the front a long way from home in Saturday’s World Sports Betting Welcomes You To Champions Day Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m) and powered away to win as he liked by three and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, the impressive Red Bomber is out of the Jet Master mare Red Flame.

The colt was a R450 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

His G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup winning sire Lancaster Bomber has made a fine start with his first runners this season and is currently South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire, by stakes, for 2022-2023.

The short-lived son of War Front went close to having a double at Turffontein on Saturday with Lancaster Bomber filly Dakota Cat finishing second in the second race on the card.

Lancaster Bomber, whose early winners also include Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes queen Rascova and G2 WSB SA Nursery contender Guy Gibson, also made his mark at the recent National Yearling Sale.

The son of War Front had yearlings make up to R3 000 000 at this year’s National Sale, with Lancaster Bomber ending the sale having had 23 yearlings gross R10.685 million.
